France can pride herself on a geological diversity whose exploration, description and inventory have produced a wealth of literature in the XIXth century. With the help of UPMC faculty members the library has gathered a corpus of french regional geology books present in the collections of the CADIST in earth sciences.
The scientific validity has been decisive, as well as the accuracy of descriptions, the presence of illustrations and geographical name indexes. Every french region is represented, and the whole constitutes a memory of the land, the environment, all the more because many of the sites described have undergone major transformations since.
The authors reporting these explorations were often major actors of french geology, who enriched their works with multiple illustrations, maps and geological profiles, thus providing as many tools for the understanding of land formation.
The digitization of bibliographical indications for several authors in the collection will complement it in the near future.
